Birth
1952. Stewart Copeland (The Police) born in Alexandria, Egypt.
On The Road
1999. Indiana Governor Frank O’Bannon officially renames a 25 mile stretch of Interstate Route 65 as the Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds Highway. It’s the first time the state has honoured a living African American in such a way. The event coincides with Indiana’s 29th Annual Black Expo of which Babyface is a longtime financial supporter. This year he’ll be making a personal contribution of $ 50,000 to the Expo’s Youth Video Institute . He’ll also be donating the same amount to the VH-1 “Save The Music” campaign so that the music education programme will be brought to schools in the state for the first time.
In Court
1985. Former Bucks Fizz star, Jay Aston, is stopped from recording for any company other than Big Note Music Productions run by her former manager, Nicola Martin, by a court order. Aston, who left the group after a series of rows over her affair with Martin’s husband, Andy Hill, is under a five year contract to Big Note that was signed in 1981. At the High Court in London, she agreed not to make recordings for anyone else or sell the rights to her material until a further hearing next week. Also named in the action is Mr. Barry Mackay who gave Mr. Justice Walton, presiding, an undertaking that he would not sell Aston’s services to any other company.
In Hospital
1995. Queen Latifah (real name Dana Owens) has her car hijacked by two armed youths while driving through Harlem in the early hours of the morning. Despite co-operating with the hijackers, her bodyguard, Sean Moon, is shot three times in the chest. Latifah, her friend, MC Lyte and Moon are dumped on the sidewalk. Latifah hails a cab and they rush the injured bodyguard to the nearest emergency room.

Death
1981. Singer songwriter Harry Chapin (“Cat’s In The Cradle”, “W.O.L.D”) dies in a car crash in Jericho, New York on his way to a benefit concert, aged 39.
