While looking at album release info today, I stumbled across the artwork for the Chemical Brothers newbie, due in April and titled, “No Geography”. My first thought was, “What the Hell?” as the image was more than a little familiar to me. Now it may well be that there are subtle differences. There might be an extra cloud here or there. The colours might be different but important details like the tank and motorway flyover are to a casual observer identical.

I remembered the image from Godley & Creme’s triple album extravaganza, “Consequences”, released back in 1977. Unfortunately, I left my copy of the album 1,000 miles away from where I am now so I couldn’t refer to it. I’m sure the image was also used in music paper adverts for “Consequences” but I didn’t fancy a trip out on a cold wet day to look in my container. Instead, I found a cinema ad for the album on YouTube. I’ve taken a couple of frame grabs from that so you can see for yourself how close they are.

Here’s the album cover:BEMlgUCh.jpg

Here are the frame grabs:

For anyone who wants to see the Cinema Avert it’s here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h28R5LhTRCw

Maybe the use of the image is meant as an homage to the original designers or Godley & Creme but it seems pointless to me. What can we expect next?
