1941. Robert Fripp (King Crimson) born in Wimbourne, Dorset.
2001. Jon Bon Jovi takes to the stage at Monmouth University in West Long Branch, New Jersey to receive an honourary doctorate of humanities. After receiving his degree, Bon Jovi gave the commencement speech to more than 1,000 students, their families and friends who were gathered on the lawns outside the university’s Woodrow Wilson Hall.
1998. Magistrates in Yate, North Avon, heard more than 50 charges against Gary Glitter. The 54 year old singer, whose real name is Paul Gadd was not in court. It’s alleged that 50 indecent images of children were found on a computer that he took for repair to a branch of PC World.
Glitter is also charged with indecently assaulting a girl under 13 between March 1975 and April 1977 and sexually assaulting a girl under 16 between March and April 1980. The case continues.
2000. Axl Rose calls police to his home in the Latigo Canyon area of Malibu to complain of a tresspasser. County Sheriff’s Deputies found the culprit to be a 39 year old woman, Karen O’Neill, who has been involved in previous stalking cases at the singer’s home. Rose has even filed a restraining order against her. Police arrest her and cherge her with breaching that order.

2002. Bruce Springsteen issues a categorical denial that he will run as a candidate in this year’s U.S. Senate elections. The Boss quotes General William Sherman who refused to stand for president in 1884, saying, “If nominated, I will not run. If elected, I will not serve”. Springsteen’s unusual statement follows the announcement two days ago that New Jersey political activists were planning to draft him into the race.
