1933. Mike Stoller, the musical half of the Leeber and Stoller partnership, born in Belle Harbour, Long Island.
Looking through my crates of stuff for items to put on eBay, I came across this. It’s just a repro but it perfectly illustrates the package tours that existed in the 1960s.
On The Street
1974. John Lennon and Harry Nilsson are thrown out of the Troubadour Club in Los Angeles after creating a disturbance during the Smothers Brothers performance.
1969. Millicent Martin (real name Millicent Mary Lilian Cleghorn) is granted a decree nisi against her husband, the singer, Ronnie Carroll at Brighton Divorce Court. She had sued for divorce on the grounds of desertion.
1989. Bob Geldof‘s wife, Paula Yates, gives birth to the couple’s second daughter at St. Mary’s Hospital in London. The new arrival which weighed in at 7lb 9oz, is still to be named.
1976. American Bandstand (ABC, U.S.A.) 2216. Larry Santos – “We Can’t Hide It Anymore”; Dolenz, Jones, Boyce and Hart – “I Remember the Feeling”. Here’s D,J,B & H!
1955. Jazz saxaphone legend, Charlie “Bird” Parker dies in New York, aged 33. The death certificate gave lobar pneumonia as the cause of death. The post mortem gave four possible causes – pneumonia, a heart attack, burst stomach ulcers and cirrhosis of the liver.
