1964. Neneh Cherry (daughter of jazz trumpeter Don Cherry) born in Stockholm, Sweden.
1991. “The News Of The World” reveals that Candi Staton has joined a religious cult called Berecah Ministries. Until recently Staton, who’s currently featured on Source’s top ten hit, “You Got The Love”, was recording an album for the cult. Privisionally titled, “Love Lifted Me, the project has been shelved due to a lack of funds.
1999. Following his arrest on February 16th, Wu-Tang Clan rapper, ODB appears in court in Los Angeles charged with wearing body armour in contravention of a recent law banning convicted felons from doing so. Appearing under his real name of Russell Jones, the rapper seems visibly agitated and has to be repeatedly silenced by the judge during the hearing. Despite pleas from the Deputy Public Defender that the rapper had been forced to wear a bullet-proof vest after being caught in a shoot out several weeks ago in New York, the judge isn’t impressed and sets bail at $ 115,000. ODB’s felony conviction stems from a 1993 second-degree assault on a man in a bar.
1997. Adam Yauch (The Beastie Boys) joins Nobel Peace Prize winner Jose Ramos-Horta at a rally to mark Tibetan Uprising Day outside the United Nations building in New York. Yauch is co-founder of the Milarepa Fund and helped organise last year’s Tibetan Freedom Festival.
1967. The Man From Uncle (NBC, U.S.A.) with an episode called “The Hot Number Affair”, featuring Sonny and Cher.
1988. Andy Gibb dies of an inflammatory heart virus in Oxford, England.
