1936. Sylvia Robinson born Sylvia Vanderpool in New York. She had a series of hits in the ‘fifties with Micky Baker as Mikie and Sylvia before forming All Platinum Records in the ‘sixties and Sugarhill in the ‘seventies.
1998. Liam Gallagher (Oasis) is released from police custody on $ 6,900 bail after head butting a 19 year old fan outside his Hotel in Brisbane yesterday evening. He spent the night in police cells after being charged with assault occasioning bodily harm. The group’s Brisbane lawyer, Terry O’Gorman says Gallagher will deny the charge when it comes to court.
1995. Rapper Luther Campbell is in court in Miami defending an action brought against him by his former girlfriend, Melda Parinas for emotional damage and embarrassment. Parinas is seeking a percentage of sales of the rapper’s album, “I’ve Got Sum Thin …” which includes tapes of her having telephone sex with Campbell. Campbell’s lawyers claim the tapes were used with Parinas’ full agreement.
1970. Charles Manson, serving life in prison, releases his much bootlegged “cult” album “The Lie” to help pay legal expenses.
1998. Parkinson (U.K.) with Bryan Adams.
1995. Ska and reggae singer Delroy Wilson dies in University Hospital, Kinston, Jamaica after years of alcohol abuse.
