1945. Roger Harold Daltrey born in Hammersmith, London.

On Tour

1969. Husband and wife duo, Esther and Abi Ofarim end their working relationship after today’s concert in Cologne, West Germany. Esther is flying to Hollywood where she has a film contract while Abi is heading for London to record a solo album.

In Court

1971. Mr. David Hirst, Q.C., begins his final submissions on the seventh day of Paul McCartney‘s High Court claim that the affairs of The Beatles should be handed over to a receiver. He told the court that The Beatles had “irretrievably broken up”. McCartney’s claim is opposed by other members of the group.

In Hospital

1995. R.E.M. drummer Bill Berry collapses during a show at the Patinoire De Malley Auditorium in Lausanne, Switzerland. He is taken to hospital and diagnosed as suffering from a brain haemorrhage.

On Television

1986. Aspel & Company (ITV, U.K.) Guests include: George Michael.


2002. Doreen Waddell, lead vocalist on Soul II Soul‘s 1989 album, “Club Classics Volume I”, dies after being hit by three cars outside a Tesco store in Shoreham, West Sussex. She had been challenged by staff, who accused her of shoplifting but ran from the store before she could be detained. In her rush to escape, she ran onto the busy main road nearby and was hit by the cars. Waddell, who died in hospital later, had to be identified by her fingerprints.
