1935. Ray Manzarek (The Doors) born Raymond Daniel Manzarek in Chicago, Illinois.

On Tour

1969. Mary Hopkin visits the greetings card manufacturer Valentine & Sons Ltd., at their Dundee factory. The company have produced the postcards which will appear on the singer’s debut album to be released tomorrow.

In Court

1969. Pop singer Carole Deene, 24, is awarded £ 5,575 damages at Glamorgan Assizes in Cardiff after winning a civil case relating to an accident in 1966 when her car was in collision with a lorry. She had sued the driver and his employers after suffering a fractured jaw and knee. The court was told that at the time of her accident, she had two records in the Top Ten and an earning potential of £ 8,000 – £ 10,000. This had been lost after the accident. Deene’s husband, Barry Turner, better known as pop singer Tony Lindell, said the affair had “shattered” his wife’s confidence.

On Television

1983. Gastank (U.K.) Hosted by Rick Wakeman and Tony Ashton with guests Donovan, Ian Paice, Alvin Lee and Phil Lynott. Here’s Donovan with “Lalena”.

In Custody

1967. Police, led by Chief Inspector Gordon Direly, raid Redlands, the home of Keith Richards in West Wittering, Sussex after a tip-off from “The News Of The World”. Keith, Mick Jagger and Marianne Faithfull are all searched. Police remove a quantity of various substances including Earl Grey tea, sun-tan oil, four amphetamine tablets and cannabis. There is no public statement from the police about the raid but the following week, “The News Of The World” carries full details. Although the amphetamines were found in Marianne’s coat, Mick claims they are his. As a result, she is not charged. Mick and Keith are not so lucky.

In Hospital

1982. Shirley Bassey undergoes exploratory surgery at a hospital in Los Angeles. She was admitted to he hospital yesterday. No other details have been revealed.
