1947. John “Pugwash” Weathers (Gentle Giant) born in Carmarthen, Wales.

On Tour

1973. Keith Emerson (E.L.P.) injures his hands onstage in San Francisco when his piano (which explodes during the set) detonates too early.

In Court

1967. Drew Harvey, beat group manager and booking agent, files for divorce from his 26 year old wife, Jackie Trent (real name Yvonne Ann Trent) citing Anthony Peter Hatch as co-respondent.

In Hospital

1968. After the birth of his daughter yesterday, Elvis Presley arrives at the Baptist Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee with two policemen that he’s hiring at £10 a shift to guard his wife and child.

On Television

1969. Ed Sullivan Show (U.S.A.). Show No. 984 with musical guests Vanilla Fudge, The Temptations.


1979. Sid Vicious is out on bail awaiting trial for the murder of Nancy Spungeon. To celebrate, his mother and friends hold a party. Having gone “cold turkey” in Ryker’s Island Prison, he’s lost all tolerance to heroin. By the time anyone realises, it’s too late. Sid never makes it to the hospital alive. He is 21 years old.
